Payne's Hut Property
Payne's Hut Property

Payne’s Hut is an Australian-style experience situated in the upper reaches of the Mitta Mitta River in an area known as Glen Valley.       It is a base to explore the High Plains — to hear about the local area, go fishing, walk and enjoy a packed lunch or read a book in the garden or on the outdoor bed.

The property is yours to explore and to luxuriate in. Hosts Tess and Graham Payne have based their business on their 5 heart principles.

As we’re remote, phone bookings are the quickest on 03 5159 7255 and international: +61 3 5159 7255 or add your request here (allow a couple of days for a reply).

Payne’s Hut was established and built with care by Tess and Graham Payne. As Tess says, “Grae fell in love with the land and I fell in love with him”. They have specially designed this sanctuary for you to relax and leave your cares behind.

Tess and Graham pride themselves on keeping their property historically and authentically connected to the area. The property adds elements of surprise and expectation. A true retreat, a sanctuary. The buildings are simple, made of timber and corrugated iron.

Tess and Grae revel in the local area that they have called home for over two decades. With world experiences and previous lives in the city, they chose this area called “Shannonvale” as their home and have built a remote country oasis like no other.

Three accommodation areas are available – The Hut and the East Wing and West Wing of the Barn. All equipped generously with luxurious furnishings, crisp linens and L’Occitane skincare products. These beautiful rooms are nestled into the gorgeous garden, all surrounded by paddocks with clear views of the night stars.

The Hut is a stand-alone haven complete with a queen size bed, crisp, white linen and warming covers. It has an ensuite with a large glass door that overlooks the garden – perfect to leave open in warmer times.

There is a sitting area with a single day bed, heater to warm when necessary, tea and coffee making facilities. An outdoor bed is available for you to sleep under the stars or for a lovely day snooze! The private balcony attracts you and your book for a lazy afternoon.

The Hut is a perfect place to celebrate a honeymoon or to hunker down and relax in your own private hideaway.

$340 per night for two people.

The Barn is a large, two story timber and corrugated iron structure set in the middle of the Payne’s Hut property.

Two expansive areas known as the East and West Wing, are on either side of a large, warm dining room. Each Wing has a queen-size four-poster bush bed made by Grae using local timbers. A day bed, sitting area, warming wood fire heater (especially important on those cold nights!) ensuite and crisp linen.

West Wing: $340 per night for two people.

East Wing: $340 per night for two people.

Should your family wish to add a third single bed to your rooms, please contact us to organise and for slight rate adjustments.

The property can accommodate groups of up to 11 people plus sites for camping. We can also organise accommodation for 20 people close by with advance notice.

Breakfast — At Payne’s Hut breakfast is included in the the tariff. Tea and coffee is available anytime.

Our breakfast includes cereal, Grae’s homemade breads, Tess’s jams and spreads, and something special such as preserved fruits, yoghurt or berries from the berry patch when they’re in season.  We have selected our favourite flavour, beans and supplier of coffee, Beraldo Coffee, which is freshly ground each morning. A wide selection of teas are available.

We suggest being cooked for on the first night as a welcome relax after your drive. Please let us know any dietary requirements so we can lock in a delicious meal plan for you.

As we’re remote, we require your food order when booking your stay.

You are more than welcome to cook for yourself in the outdoor kitchen. Condiments, salt and pepper, butter, oil, and herbs from the garden are available for your use.  The outdoor kitchen is fully equipped with fridge, gas oven and stovetop, gas toaster, kettle, cookware, glassware, crockery and cutlery. Surrounded by the lush garden and bottles of preserving fruits, you’ll impress all of your senses.

Your meals can be enjoyed in the indoor or outdoor dining areas. An outdoor fireplace encourages conversation and dining in the greenhouse is a memorable alfresco experience sitting amongst the herbs and vegetables.

Payne’s Hut is BYO. However we also have a small bar stocked with beer and local wines available for purchase.                                           Payne’s Hut proudly showcases Ceccanti Kiewa Valley Wines.

The 1-acre, Payne’s Hut garden is specially designed with Feng Shui principles so you can wander and delight in the relaxing environment and take time to enjoy. It is superb during all seasons and has so much love and attention from designer and creator Tess.

Relax, you’re almost at Payne’s Hut.
