Payne’s Hut is a specially designed sanctuary for you to relax and leave your cares behind.

It is hosted remote accommodation located in the semi-remote upper reaches of the Mitta at Shannonvale. Hosts, Tess and Graham Payne, pride themselves on keeping their property historically and authentically connected to the area. The property adds elements of surprise and expectation.

The buildings are simple, built out of slabs of timber and corrugated iron. A retreat, a sanctuary. Use us as a base for exploring the High Plains. Enjoy hearing about the local area or walk around and enjoy… All the while knowing you have a bed of crisp, white linen waiting for you at the end of the day. Shake hands with the Southern Cross by night!
Three accommodation areas are available (scroll to the bottom to see more photos of each accommodation area):
  • the main timber Hut with queen size bed and quality bed linen, ensuite, sitting area, private balcony, tea & coffee making facility and a window which at nighttime is a postcard of stars.

Other accommodation can be arranged as required for larger groups.

Another option for people wanting to immerse themselves in nature is the “sleep under the stars” package, weather permitting. Try our outdoor bed and comfortable swags (traditional outdoor bedding made out of canvas) well-known and loved by High Country Cattlemen.

A breakfast basket is included in the tariff. Make sure you take advantage of the scrumptious foods when you order – lunches, picnics and evening meals are available.
